Abstract | The objective of this study is to obtain information about how college students' economic orientations interact with one another as well as with indicators of the level of their satisfaction with their lives and social and economic factors. The assumption was that these orientations are formed by a number of latent variables and factors, and that their content will be influenced first and foremost by their level of satisfaction with their financial condition. The study is carried out in 16 state institutions of higher learning in the city of Ekaterinburg. The survey covered students in the 1st through 5th years of study in December 2003 to February 2004, with a total "quota sample" of 664 people. Of all the economic dispositions of college students, this study focuses first and foremost on their "work attitudes." Only two orientations are not included in the sphere of work: the orientation toward material prosperity and toward handing out a large sum of money as a loan. The students' work orientations are measured with respect to work as a value, the content of the work activity and the norms governing it, and the qualities of personality that are required in work activity. These orientations toward work activity, interesting work, the work of a manager or businessperson, obeying work ethic norms, and toward the value of material prosperity are presented in this article.
