Abstract	Jane Schoenfeld's eighteen-year-old daughter and five of her daughter's friends have major learning differences. After searching fruitlessly for a summer class in independent living skills, Shoenfeld relates how she and the parents of her daughter's friends decided to set up their own summer program. They found a facilitator and invited two typically developing teen-aged girls to serve as "counselors." They planned for two-week sessions that included classes on meal planning, shopping, cooking, grooming, budgeting, and taking public transportation, and some lessons on social skills and discussing teenage issues. Despite the complications, Schoenfeld relates how everyone found the program a huge success. All the girls said they had enjoyed it and learned a great deal. At the end of the program, the facilitator put together a book with quotations from the girls about what they had learned. (ERIC).
