Abstract	Legal segregation might be dead, but many metropolitan schools remain overwhelmingly black and poor--a result of years of white flight from central cities and recent court decisions accelerating a return to neighborhood schools. At the same time, the bourgeoning Hispanic population is finding itself in increasingly segregated schools across the country, particularly in the West. In this article, the author discusses how educating this growing Hispanic population is arguably the biggest challenge--and biggest opportunity--for public schools at 50 years after the Brown v. Board of Education US Supreme Court case. (ERIC).
