Abstract | As the ninetieth anniversary is celebrated, the idea of liberal education is more important than ever in the interdependent world. An education based on the idea of an inclusive global citizenship and on the possibilities of the compassionate imagination has the potential to transcend divisions created by distance, cultural difference, and mistrust. Developing this ideal further and thinking about how to modify it in the light of this times is one of the most exciting and urgent tasks that can be undertaken as educators and citizens and is discussed here.
