| Abstract | In this article, the author shares his experiences as a first-year teacher. He discusses many challenges that he faced, including dealing with an aggressive student, the fear of losing control of the classroom, criticisms from parents, and balancing school life with his private life. The author offers advice to first-year teachers including the following main points: (1) First-year teachers should walk into their classroom acting fearless and confident in their abilities; (2) Teachers should be involved in school events outside of the classroom; (3) Teachers should let school life coexist with, while staying separate from, personal life; and (4) Teachers should enjoy every success, even small ones. The author concludes by saying that despite the challenges, over the past year he was able to help students change behaviors, become more self-confident, and grow socially. Those small victories are ones that he cherishes. (ERIC). |
