Abstract | Two challenging criteria for judging information involve bias and authority. In both cases, judgments may not be clearly possible. In both cases, there may be degrees or levels of acceptability. For students to gain experience and to demonstrate skills in making judgments, they need opportunities to consider a wide spectrum of resources under a variety of information use assignments. The Information Age poses a complex challenge to those who teach information literacy and inquiry as they and their students face sophisticated spins on messages delivered through every media format. This article discusses the most common forms of bias and describes useful exercises in information evaluation to enable students to review and reflect critically on bias found in evidence and arguments.
