AbstractAssessed the attitudes toward and beliefs about mathematics and mathematics teaching of first and final year Scottish elementary preservice teachers. Survey data indicated that they were reasonably confident and positive overall, although they tended to be relatively unadventurous in their teaching, lacked strong personal views, and considered mathematics teaching unexciting and difficult. Final year students were more confident about their teaching but less positive about mathematics. (SM)
