Abstract | Compares traditional print literacies with multiliteracies that construct and are constructed by media work in order to make the case that engagement with media redefines competence. Concludes that from the point of view of curriculum design, it makes sense to provide opportunities for these "at-risk" or "struggling" students to explore topics of interest through the use of, and with inquiry into, popular media.
