Abstract | Extends the current literature by broadening Social Identity Theory (SIT) to the instructional context. Demonstrates that students who mention their instructor's age in an open-ended description of an ideal instructor or a disfavored instructor are more likely to be high age-group identifiers, but students describing an ideal instructor imagined a younger instructor while students describing a disfavored instructor imagined an older instructor.
