Abstract | Examines the careers and ideologies of several women educators throughout history, concluding that the very ideals that justified their entry into education also stalled their journey toward professional status. The experiences of white, African-American, and Native-American women are presented. What emerges is a view of female educators living with ideological inconsistency. (SM) |
