Abstract | This article equates liberal education with undergraduate majors in the humanities, social sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, biological sciences, and psychology. It notes that recent trends of declining numbers of such majors are due to a decrease in student demand and a rise in the rate of return to college, itself due to declining opportunities for high school graduates.
