Abstract | A recent report on doctorates awarded in 1993 indicates that gains of black Americans, who received 4.2% of all doctorates, outpaced all other minority groups. The proportion of doctorates awarded to women continued to increase steadily, and the life sciences were the most popular discipline group. Data on gender trends since 1983, ethnicity of 1993 recipients, and characteristics of 1993 recipients are presented. (MSE) |
