Abstract | In a study of English Canadian attitudes toward French-accented speakers presented as potential teachers of French as a second language, undergraduate students evaluated standard French speakers most favorably on status traits, linguistic competence, and professional competence. English-accented speakers were rated least favorably; Quebecois-accented speakers were rated least favorably on solidarity traits. (10 references) (Author/LB) |
