Abstract | Explores causes of academic achievement gains by African-American students using data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Evidence suggests that the socioeconomic advancement of African-American families is more important than school programs, particularly desegregation, in explaining rising African-American achievement. Compensatory education and implications for educational policy are explored. (SLD) |
