Abstract | Analyzes the use, in American newspapers, of the phrase "Blacks and women" to describe the hostages released by Iran in November 1979. Argues that the race/sex designations, originated with the Iranians and continued by the news media, were not the most appropriate of the available choices. (JMF) |
