Abstract | The need to integrate the ideal world of scholarship with the actual world of career preparation is discussed. It is explained that, to achieve this integration, liberal education needs to focus on the three-part goal of: (1) developing skills for lifelong learners, (2) synthesizing specialized knowledge, and (3) making informed value judgments.
