Abstract | Using data from "The National Study on Latino Male Achievement in Higher Education," the authors have spent the last few years seeking to understand how queer Latino men negotiate their familial relationships at selective colleges and universities. After completing a couple of studies, the authors now find it important to ask the question: what do student affairs practitioners need to know about the familial capital of queer Latino undergraduate men? This featured article offers reflections in four sections: (a) contextualizing the role of family for queer Latino men, (b) providing insights from the queer Latino men in the research, (c) considerations on familial capital in higher education, and (d) advancing the authors' personal reflections on this work and topic. The authors hope that this scholarship will be of use to student affairs practitioners as they seek to help students from minoritized backgrounds such as Queer People of Color (QPOC) succeed in collegiate environments.
