Abstract | Problem-based learning (PBL) is a type of active learning modality involving a student-centered approach that encompasses small group settings in order to promote learning via critical thinking and discussion as opposed to via direct presentation of facts and concepts. Through PBL, students engage actively in their learning. Facilitated PBL sessions put an emphasis on active learning by students as they explore their knowledge and understanding of medically related concepts as well as their own attitudes and values. This paper provides an introduction to the PBL modality and tips for developing a facilitation approach. Also included are examples of formative and summative feedback and implementation strategies that can be used by PBL facilitators. An example of a training exercise for PBL facilitation feedback is also presented. (As Provided). |
