Abstract | Through 15-plus years of direct experience and research coupled with the concerns and truths of many adult education colleagues, Daquanna Harrison gives a call to action for adult education. This call asks adult educators throughout the U.S. to better and more quickly transform the field of adult education into a viable career choice for minority teachers by offering family sustaining wages, community and culturally aligned partnerships for recruitment, andragogy- and culturally-aware teaching practices and trainings, and a commitment to students' needs by ensuring that staff mirrors the student body. The call ends with four specific action steps and insightful questions to help programs, administrators, and educators begin to make meaningful progress toward the call to action. (As Provided). |
