Abstract | As a follow-up to their article, "Emojis and Their Place in the Mathematics Classroom" (EJ1358586), the authors examine how emojis can be used as bridging representations to support student understanding of proof and algebra in upper primary school. They take a problem from reSolve, Level 3, (AAMT, 2020), look at it from the perspective of a Year 3 student, and then show how emojis can be used to find and prove the correct answer in a comprehensible manner. They are trying to show how emojis can work as algebra but without any knowledge of algebra. They argue that this is important as it gives students a powerful tool as well as an introduction for algebra later in their mathematics career. (ERIC). |
