Abstract | This article describes the innovation and creativity employed in an early childhood program, motivated by the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenge the authors faced, as teacher educators, was to modify their final practicum experience requirements so that they could be completed online without forfeiting the opportunity for a teacher candidate to understand young children's unique qualities and course of development and learning. Under normal circumstances, the undergraduate students in the non-licensure early childhood major complete various field experiences throughout their program of study, with a 130-hour capstone practicum in the final semester. The experience includes assignments that focus on lesson planning, implementation, and reflection, as well as development of a learning center, engaging families, and participating in professional development opportunities. Teacher candidates are placed in a variety of settings, including the university laboratory schools, local child care centers, and Head Start centers. Partnerships with these settings have developed over years of collaboration. Despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, the university instructors and the practitioners at Head Start were able to effectively collaborate to create a positive virtual practicum experience.
