Abstract	The recent attention being given to early childhood trauma and its negative effects on long-term learning and development has led many policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to focus on developing practices that support children and families who are experiencing trauma. Given the fact that many young children spend a significant amount of time in out-of-home care within childcare centers and preschools, these types of settings are a critical context in which trauma-based practices can be delivered. However, a major limiting factor is that few early childhood practitioners are adequately prepared to recognize and respond to trauma, and implement effective practices (Schulman & Menschner, 2018). The purpose of this article is to support this growing need within the field by providing an overview of trauma and specific practices that can be implemented within early childhood settings to effectively respond to young children and their families who have been exposed to trauma.
