AbstractFor the first time in the history of the State of the States, all 50 states will be represented with entries this year. A number of state legislatures are working to provide public education the necessary fiscal support to provide students with a high quality 21st century education, or restore funding levels for public education to pre-Great Recession levels. These efforts at expanding financial support for public education include: (1) Teacher salaries; (2) Full-day kindergarten; (3) Teacher recruitment and retention; and (4) Facility needs. Both P-12 and Higher Education funding took a significant hit in the years following the Great Recession. However, this year's data suggest that while challenges remain, many states are continuing to expand educational opportunities and improve facilities for children and young adults. Several legislatures have made significant strides to raise educator salaries, and states are creating pathways for more teachers to enter the field of education. The following contents are included: (1) Expanding and Contracting Support for Public Education: Commentary on the 2019 State of the States (Spencer C. Weiler and Christine Kiracofe); (2) Alabama (Brenda Mendiola and Philip Westbrook); (3) Alaska (Amy Dagley); (4) Arizona (Davíd G.
