Abstract | Over the last few decades, the proportion of students receiving arts education has shrunk drastically. When students were asked to share information about their culture and history, it was discovered that a majority of students lacked knowledge of their own history and culture. It is also important for students to have exposure to other cultures and perspectives. To create this learning environment, teachers need to skillfully draw on student experiences and enrich the curriculum by including art, culture, and history. This article describes how these experiences and knowledge gave birth to a new program of cultural education called Virsa. (ERIC). |
