Abstract | The present study describes results of a randomized three-group repeated measures study that examined whether augmenting a culturally-based parent education program (Familias) can strengthen the effects of a youth intervention (kiR) in reducing rates of alcohol consumption among Latinx adolescents. A stratified random sample of 462 Latinx early adolescents from a Southwestern city participated in this study. Ordinary Least Squares regression results show that receiving the parental and youth curricula components and two other family practices were significantly associated with lower rates of alcohol consumption at Wave 2. Findings support the notion that prevention efforts that include a culturally grounded parent component could be a more effective strategy to help Latinx youth refrain from alcohol use than youth-only programs.
