Abstract | The Development Impact Bond (DIB) is a pioneering new way to encourage private investors to fund international development projects that is 100% focused on the outcomes achieved. Instiglio, a non-profit, Results-Based Financing advisory organization, is providing technical assistance to organizations during the design of these instruments and is currently providing performance management assistance to Educate Girls, the service provider associated with the first-ever DIB. Educate Girls identifies out-of-school girls in Rajasthan, India, then engages directly with their families to boost the girls' school enrollment and attendance. Volunteers provide a child-centric learning intervention three times a week to 15,000 boys and girls in grades 3-5. In this article, Julia Loraque, Chief of Staff, Operations, at Instiglio, describes their work with the Educate Girls DIB. In addition to improving education for children in India, this bond served as a "proof of concept," showing potential service providers, donors, and investors how DIBs could contribute to societal gains while also offering financial returns.
