Abstract | Are services that were once intended to be exclusively available to the distance learning population now typically available for all users in a university community? This article seeks to investigate this question using two different methods. First, an unobtrusive study of 100 library Websites was conducted to determine whether these libraries offer distinct services such as delivery of materials, instruction, research guides, or dedicated library personnel for off-campus users, and whether there is any differentiation between services for on- and off-campus populations. Second, two surveys were conducted to gather information from library staff about services and access methods provided to distance learners. Results showed some disconnect between information on library Websites versus information reported by library staff members. In addition, there appears to be more integration of services in the area of instruction and reference assistance than in delivery of materials. (As Provided). |
