Abstract | Given that Latinas/os make up the fastest-growing population group in the U.S., according to the 2000 U.S. Census, classroom teachers increasingly are in need of meaningful resources and learning strategies for students of Latin American heritage. These same resources can also serve to help internationalize/diversify classrooms serving non-Latino student populations. An online course focused on children?s books was offered twice with the purpose of helping students develop or raise awareness of the Latin American/Latino cultural heritage through meaningful resources and learning strategies. These learning strategies, which drew upon guest speakers, conceptual readings, and children and young adult books, included: audioconferencing presentations, online group discussions, a team project, and a synthesis paper. Students? perceptions of their online experiences in this online course are analyzed and implications for practice presented. (As Provided). |
