Abstract	Blowing bubbles is not only a favorite summer activity for young children. Studying bubbles that are grouped together, or "foam," is fun for children and fascinating to many real-world scientists. Foam is widely used--from the bedroom (mattresses) to outer space (insulating panels on spacecraft). Bubble foam can provide children a sensory experience as they explore bubbles and bubble formation. This column discusses resources and science topics related to students in grades preK to 2. This month's issue has children observing the formation of foam and exploring the properties of foam using sight and touch. In the activity presented in this article, children can feel two foam ingredients (dishwashing soap and water) separately and discuss their properties, then discover what happens when they are combined and air is added through mixing. Children's observations will help them construct explanations about bubble formation and argue from evidence. Sharing their drawings and other documentation of observations is one way children support their ideas (argue) with evidence. (ERIC).
