AbstractIntegrating a "global perspective" into courses necessarily involves examining whether traditional disciplinary assumptions still apply in a global context and, if not, how they need to be translated in order to remain relevant. In this article, the author maps out this process by tracing one "intellectual journey" in order to derive some general questions and principles. He starts with a concept that is important to several disciplines, including political science, sociology, and psychology: public opinion. The exercise involves attaching the label "global" to the concept, and then attempting to analyze the meaning of the new term. In this case, the concept becomes "global public opinion" or "world opinion," a concept this author has previously explored in relation to traditional notions of public opinion. (ERIC).
