AbstractThis study sought to identify primary school teachers' perception on the need for human capital development for standards-based curriculum in primary schools in Anambra State. Simple random sampling was used to draw a sample of 630 teachers. Four research questions were used for the study and a 41-item questionnaire was used to collect data. Data collected were analysed, using mean scores to answer the research questions. The results showed that all components of standards-based education when implemented in the classroom, would have much impact on the achievement of pupils; 11 out of 12 listed items were identified as ways teachers manifest lack of knowledge to execute standards-based education; 8 out of 9 listed reasons why teachers lack knowledge to executive standards-based education were accepted and that the teachers were willing to undergo any form of training to enhance and sustain their knowledge. On the basis of the findings, the study recommends amongst others, training/retraining of both pre-service and serving teachers on different aspects of instructional delivery, learning styles children exhibit in the classroom, practical usage of ICT in instructional delivery as well as sponsoring pre-service and serving teachers to attend seminars/workshops/ conferences to enhance and sustain their knowledge and competence level.
