Abstract	Teachers have a lot of frustrating things to deal with in school--obdurate administrators, inane work rules, and ham-fisted policies, to name a few. Instead of speaking up for change, many teachers have just come to accept all the dysfunction and take refuge in their classrooms. But teachers have it in their power to bust out of that classroom cage and help forge schools and systems in which they can do their best work. The author offers several suggestions for how teachers can enlist their principals in bringing about needed change. These include offering concrete solutions to problems; asking, "How can we do this?" rather than asking "Can I do this?; pushing for better professional development; and being prepared with a solution if the school leader says yes.
