Abstract | In this response to Juuso Tervo's ("The Problem of Representation" in this issue of "Studies in Art Education: A Journal of Issues and Research in Art Education"), jan jagodzinski replies that the commentary has provided a brilliant review that precisely fingers the concerns he has with a visual studies approach and the championing of some specific authors of contemporary art, caught by the international market place. jagodzinski especially appreciated Tervo's careful analysis of his worry when it comes to designer capitalism and for Badiou and Deleuze/Guattari's approach to reposition "aesthetics" as it has been theorized, despite the tensions and differences that exist between their respective positions. All in all, it is a joy to read that the problematic of non-representation is a direction Juuso embraces and continues to develop in his own unique way via Lacan, who also troubles representational thought by theorizing the gap or stain of the Real.
