Abstract	In their article "Rethinking the Market Metaphor: School Choice, the Common Good, and the National Football League," Brent D. Beal and Heather K. Olson Beal (this issue) promise to update some of the arguments made by Jeffrey R. Henig (1994) and add an interesting twist by proposing the National Football League (NFL) as a possible analogy to U.S. K-12 schooling. In this article, Joseph Bast comments that Beal and Beal promise a critique of "the market metaphor" and a thought-provoking alternative analogy to the NFL. He argues however, that their their critique simply repeats the misconceptions and errors of an earlier generation of critics of economics, markets, and school choice. Bast agrees with Beal and Beal that drawing an analogy between schools and the NFL is interesting, but Bast believes it reveals some important lessons about the benefits of competition and choice that the authors missed.
