Abstract | This special issue addresses an ambitious set of concerns around the experience of adolescents in the majority world: expanded models of development, successful models of intervention, and the impact of globalization. The papers, which vary widely in both substance and methodology, make a substantial contribution to pushing forward the boundaries of our knowledge around these issues. As analysts working at the nexus of research and policy on adolescents in the majority world, we focus our commentary on two key topics. First, the authors discuss the need for explicit attention to age and gender disparities in adolescent experiences and outcomes. Second, they address the need to overcome a Western bias inherent in dominant conceptual models of development and in programs aimed at improving adolescent lives. (ERIC). |
