AbstractTeacher turnover is an issue not only in the state of Idaho but across the nation. This study examined the attrition outcomes of 6,572 beginning teachers in Idaho that were trained in one of four types of teacher preparation programs and started teaching between the 2014-15 and 2019- 20 school years. Teachers in the ABCTE preparation program were less likely to be unemployed than traditionally certified teachers in each of the three years after initial certification. There was no statistically significant difference in employment outcomes between teachers who completed a nontraditional program through an institute of higher education and traditionally trained teachers. Teach for America-Idaho teachers were found to be 2.6 times and 3.3 times more likely to be unemployed in years 2 and 3 after initial certification. Conclusions suggest a look into what makes the ABCTE program completers more likely to stay in the classroom and a discussion regarding Teach for America -- Idaho needs to take place due to the large turnover rates.
