Abstract | The current study, a phenomenological case study, examined the personality traits of teachers in a small, private school located in a large metropolitan area utilizing the Enneagram personality typing system. The purpose of the current study was to ascertain the effects that teachers' personalities play in their roles as educators. Each research question in the current study can be thought of using the analogy of concentric circles. The first research question is the innermost circle and deals with how a teacher's personality affects what happens within the four walls of their classroom. The second research question can be reflected in a larger circle. It is a bit more overarching and its focus is on not just what happens within a teacher's classroom but in their role as a professional educator regardless of the setting. The third research question represents the largest of the three circles. It deals with how a campus full of educators who are all knowledgeable of the Enneagram contributes to the culture of that campus. Participants were comprised of nine teachers, representing each Enneagram number, 1-9. Additionally, two administrators and a key informant were interviewed as part of a verification technique. Themes emerged from the data such as greater awareness, stronger relationships, and more strategic division of labor. Information provided about their personalities by the participants themselves paralleled commonly-held fundamental characteristics of the Enneagram type they represented. Recommendations for how to apply the current study's findings are included. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
