AbstractThis dissertation presents an in-depth examination of the effectiveness of implementing a noticing routine on 11 second-year high school students struggling with attendance. The study was conducted in a traditional high school in the largest Northeastern state school district and included qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. The study results show that implementing noticing routines positively affected student attendance. Additionally, the findings illustrate that teachers who implement noticing routines can help create positive student-teacher relationships. The results of the implementation of the noticing routine will be shared with novice teachers as a strategy to use with chronically absent students, and the findings will be presented to faculty and staff at the school where the study took place. The use of noticing routines is an innovation designed to help create positive student-teacher relationships, increase student attendance, assist with student success in the classroom, and ultimately help increase on-time graduation rates.
