AbstractThe purpose of the quantitative, descriptive, correlational study was to determine the influence of the first-year teacher induction program on the retention of teachers within the first five years of their careers. The study was conducted by surveying 70 teachers from elementary, middle, and high schools in a large school district in the upstate of South Carolina. The data analysis consisted of descriptive statistics and correlational statistics obtained from Pearson's "r" tests. The correlational tests were used to determine the level of influence between the independent variables of the district's novice teacher induction program and the dependent variable of teacher retention within the first five years. The results of the study indicate there is some influence among the district-level induction programming, the school-level mentor guidance, and the school-level principal support and novice teacher retention.
