AbstractThis quantitative study sought to determine if public and charter districts within Region One Education Service Center (ESC) are currently leveraging a change management framework. Furthermore, the goal was to determine if the change framework that is potentially being used is one that is effective based on the perspective of the respondents. Furthermore, this study provides foundational information for future work and research around major changes faced by educators and how their response to it could be better predicted and planned for. Educators at all levels face multiple changes at a high frequency stemming from leadership changes, policy changes, curriculum changes, and school board changes to name a few. Change management and the subsequent frameworks that have been developed as a response to change within organizations is a complex process that often requires intentionality and strategic planning. One quote by Benjamin Franklin emphasizes the importance of planning by stating that in "failing to plan, you are preparing to fail" which can help support the need for appropriate planning in an array of situations however, this is especially true regarding change. This study presents and summarizes a variety of change management frameworks such as Lewin's landmark 3-step change management model, Kotter's 8-step process for leading change, Lean Change Management Model, and the Prosci ADKAR Model as options for change management. These frameworks along with the concepts of adult learning and the value of intentional learning strategies are presented to help shed light on the importance of change management in all fields but especially the field of education. This study collected survey responses of over 200 participants that work in public and charter schools within Region One ESC in the State of Texas. The survey which was organized into four main categories, Communication, Feedback, Implementation, and Follow Up, yielded responses from 275 participants over the course of 8 weeks. The survey results, using a Likert scale, indicated that communication, a component of change management, was positively perceived and effectively used as demonstrated by the composite satisfaction score of 4.06 which was equivalent to "Agree" as per the Likert scale selections. This composite satisfaction score indicates that on average participants agreed that Communication from their perspective was efficiently and effectively used when they experienced change. However, the composite scores for Feedback, Implementation, and Follow Up were inconclusive as the average response was that participants neither agreed nor disagreed with the statements, using a Likert scale to score. The statistical results and interactions determined through the use of a t test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation are presented as evidence correlating change management components and survey responses and attitudes.
