AbstractThe purpose of this qualitative study was to examine how administrators and teachers perceive JROTC instructors leadership qualities in order to identify factors of teacher leadership that they consider in supporting teacher leaders in their schools. Administrators and teachers require knowledge of JROTC instructor skills and how those skills compliment their organizational goals. This study was guided by the following research questions: (1) What are principals' perceptions of how they view JROTC instructors in leadership roles in school? (2) What are teachers' perceptions of how they view JROTC instructors in leadership roles in school? (3) How do principals view JROTC instructors in relation to other teachers? and (4) How do teachers view JROTC instructors in relation to other teachers? Although there are numerous studies related to the JROTC program, minimum research focus on JROTC instructors. The absence of research creates an opening to explore perceptions of administrators and teachers towards JROTC instructors. This qualitative phenomenological study helped identify leadership qualities of JROTC instructors serving in three high schools within one school district. The study used a survey to collect data from 14 participants, three assistant principals and eleven teachers. The findings of the study revealed that JROTC instructors have a positive impact on the school and the community. Additionally, administrators and teachers revealed that leadership qualities demonstrated by JROTC instructors support teacher leaders.
