AbstractThe family is the axis of the initial formation of the individual in the early stage of his life. The attachment and affective ties that are established through the interactions between its members and the experiences that are shared, promote meaningful learning. Through this research, the perception families have about exposing their children to reading in the preschool stage was examined. A qualitative case study was carried out in nine families using data collected through digital questionnaires with open questions, focus groups, observations, and reflection tasks. The research was directed to know what experiences motivate families to read to their children, if they know the benefits of exposing them to this practice in their preschool stage and if they are properly oriented to promote reading practices such as reading aloud and oral narration. The findings of this research showed that families perceive exposure to reading as a necessary component to prepare children for their formal education, are involved in reading activities at the preschool and are largely aware of the benefits of reading to their children in the classroom. preschool stage. They are aware that these practices strengthen the reading habit as a pleasant and enjoyable one, in addition to accompanying them throughout life. Families are the key in the early stages of the individual. Training and supporting them in the search for activities that promote and stimulate the development of their children's maximum potential should be a priority. The school and the state have the responsibility to assist in the formation of the individuals who make up the future society. Preparing them for formal education is a reciprocal task, involving the family and the school. Trying to strengthen individuals in a comprehensive manner, with competencies and skills that allow them to become a citizen of the world, will result in their insertion into the future society.
