Abstract | Since the implementation of the federal government initiative called No Child Left Behind schools have become faced with the problem of meeting the demands of the state assessments. To overcome some of the problems that the schools are facing in mathematics, this Action Research Program utilized a schedule of both teacher and student directed tutoring programs, review of the effects of standardized testing, and the use of Computer Based Programs and its data to improve the scores. This action research study aims to evaluate the success of the district math program and improve state standardized assessment scores. The math program is intended to assist the students at the River School district to improve their proficiency in mathematics and state assessment scores. The three research questions used to guide this study were: (1) To what extent has the implementation of Computer-Based Programs led to an increase in mathematics performance. (2) To what extent does standardized testing affect mathematics curriculum implementation. (3) To what extent has the implementation of an afterschool remedial program contributed to students' success in mathematics. The study identified that though the teachers were provided resources to implement the proper educational instruction it was lacking due to conflicting use of the resources. The researcher recommends the district re-evaluate the programs and re-establish a common path for the implementation that will better adhere to meet these needs. It is the sincere hope of this researcher that the recommendations provided will provide the mathematics department and provide the students the opportunity for more meaningful instructional experiences that will lead to a collective focus on student achievement. This type of program will be utilized in all middle school mathematics classes and will find an increase in their scores of all students.
