AbstractChildren's ways of learning are as different as the colors of the rainbow. All children have different personalities, preferences and tastes; they all have a certain way they prefer to learn. Teachers and parents need to be aware of and value these differences. Children's brains develop faster from birth to age three than any other time, and more learning takes place during this time than any other. The more learning opportunities that are provided for children from birth until school age, the more synapses are made. Children need a stimulating learning environment for cognitive development. This guide shows that there is not just one way to be intelligent but many different ways. Research has shown that people seem to learn and show their intelligence in a varied number of ways; and that, different parts of the brain seem to be tied to the different ways of being intelligent. The guide helps parents and teachers determine an individual's strong intelligence and provides suggestions for how to improve in other areas of intelligence. Activity ideas and recipes are provided to help incorporate the different types of intelligences. [This guide was originally published in 2006.] (ERIC).
