Abstract | Two decades ago, the New Jersey Supreme Court in "Abbott v. Burke" mandated that the state establish high quality preschool education in the 31 highest-poverty school districts. New Jersey created a pre-K program with high standards and a continuous improvement system that transformed a patchwork of private and public programs into a highly effective mixed delivery system. The National Institute for Early Education Research's (NIEER's) most recent research on children's long-term outcomes from this preschool system has been published in "Early Childhood Research Quarterly." The new study contributes to the understanding of the potential long-term outcomes from large scale public preschool programs. Key points regarding the program, the study, and its findings are presented in this fact sheet. (ERIC). |
