Abstract | Stagnation or promise? The third and final installment of "Quality Counts 2019" offers evidence for both in an annual summing up of the nation's K-12 system. The Education Week Research Center analyzed dozens of factors ranging from the academic to the socioeconomic in coming up with its all-inclusive state rankings and A-F grades. The results and analysis offer cautions along with clues to moving forward as policymakers seek to jump-start national progress in public education. Articles in this issue's Quality Counts report include: (1) Nation Earns a Grade of C Amid Mixed State Showing (Sterling C. Lloyd and Alex Harwin); and (2) Challenging Slog Toward Boosting School Quality (Evie Blad). [Snapshots written by Evie Blad, with research assistance from Hector Arzate. For the first installment in this three-part series, see ED592465. For the second installment, see ED595739.] (ERIC). |
