Abstract | Although parental self-efficacy has been linked to positive parenting strategies, the variability in measures and conceptualizations presents a limitation in the literature (Jones & Prinz, 2001). In this paper, we propose a new scale developed using (Author Citation) framework and pilot tested with an online panel of parents (n = 636). Our findings support a two-factor structure (child-facing and school-facing efficacy), some convergent and divergent validity, and evidence of measurement invariance by school level and race. Using structural equation modeling, we also find that child-facing and school-facing efficacy predict different types of parent engagement. This scale contributes to the literature by distinguishing between efficacy in directly influencing their child's development and efficacy in engaging with their child's school. (As Provided). |
