AbstractThis study used binary logistic regression to determine the statistical significance of stress predictors for single parent college students. The sample was drawn from a population of students from a Northwest university, and data from the first (n = 89) respondents was used. Participants were 25-40 in age, had no prior diagnosis of mood or psychotic disorders, and had never suffered a traumatic brain injury per two self-reporting surveys, one demographic in nature, and the second the PSS-10, which is designed to gather stress-related information. Of the five predictor variables (gender, education level, financial status, marital status of the parent's parents, and etiology of single-parenthood), only financial status demonstrated statistical significance in terms of the prediction of stress, with a significance level of 0.04 for male participants and 0.007 for female. This study concluded that although only financial status was found to be statistically significant, extraneous variables may have weighed heavily on these results. Future studies focusing on the interplay between financial status and social support with attention to the remaining predictor variables in this study were suggested.
