Abstract | In this brief annual report, Colorado Children's Campaign shares a few examples of their work in 2016. The Campaign's early childhood work in 2016 focused on making child care and early education more accessible and of higher quality. Among other changes, teen parents and domestic abuse survivors have better access to child care subsidies so they can work. More counties can participate in a pilot project to reduce the "cliff effect" of working parents losing support with even a minor increase in income. In health care access, the Campaign championed investments in Colorado's effective family planning program and fought a rate cut to Medicaid primary care providers. They also supported a study of premium rates for individual health insurance based on geography. Removing barriers for kids facing the most obstacles to success was a major focus of the Campaign's K-12 work in 2016. They worked with advocates from communities of color to respond to the state's plan to implement the new federal Every Student Succeeds Act. They continued to defend progress made in education policy in recent years by protecting educator accountability systems, high standards and aligned assessments. (ERIC). |
