Abstract | As the demography of Texas and the United States changes, the spotlight must be placed on the evolving needs of the Hispanic college student. As the nation focuses on many challenges, the need for education reform is looming. Today's leaders in higher education need to understand the students who will face many barriers including those focused on the increasing costs of a four year baccalaureate. The identification of these barriers can help create a path for all students who dream of a college education and a career. This study gained insight from eight students who identified, addressed and, ultimately overcame the barriers to pursue their college degree. This qualitative, phenomenological study revealed that the cost of a college education is not the only financial barrier faced by Hispanic students enrolled in regional, four year institutions in Texas. This research revealed that students found the money to graduate, but only after navigating the multitudinous financial barriers along the way to walking across the stage to confirm their effort.
